An important part of gathering with grace is offering your guests foods that are easy to eat. Grazing boards are a visual feast, however, their charm fades when they look picked over. Nobody wants to face an unappetizing display of scattered crumbs and half empty spaces. To keep your board appealing throughout your event, here are a few tips.
1. Use Smaller, Rotating Boards
Prepare a backup of each board. After about an hour you can rotate in a new, fresh board.
2. Think outside the box
You might offer progressive boards- from an hors d’oeuvres board to a dinner board to a dessert board. This idea keeps your food offerings fresh and interesting throughout your event.
If you love the look of a long “grazing table”, you can put together like sized boards to create a long look. This allows you to change out a board that looks sad and have a fresh one ready.
Don’t forget to think seasonally. With cheeses, cut a bigger piece and then cut smaller ones so that it is easy for your guests. Offer dips in mini cups.
3. Signs and Tools
Provide signs for each of your offerings to avoid problems with allergies. Use tongs, forks, and spoons for different items to prevent cross-contamination.
Be sure to have cocktail size plates and cocktail napkins
4. Design for Easy Replenishment
Group items in clusters so you can quickly refill sections. Keep back up boards refrigerated or in a cool place. Use cling wrap to cover boards.
5. Mind the Gaps
Empty spaces look unappealing. Fill gaps with herbs, edible flowers, or extra grapes to maintain an abundant appearance.
6. Designate a Board Attendant.
Have someone tidy the boards, refill items, and clean utensils. This keeps everything looking fresh.
The magic of a grazing board is in its presentation and abundance, A thoughtful presentation will ensure your grazing boards remain fresh, leaving guests impressed and welcomed.
